Moldova is one of the smallest countries in Europe with a total land area of 33,700sq km (about 13,0000 sq miles). As of 2007 the population was  4,390,490, so it is also one of the most densely populated. With a temperate climate and fertile soils, Moldova is known for its' primary industry (agriculture) and especially for the excellent wines. We had the good fortune to visit with the mayor of Soroca (top photos) and also a sobering reminder of the Nazi occupation of Moldova with a visit to the Jewish cemetery in Soroca.
